The Danhers.

 

This photo was taken in celebration of my great granddads patent for the gasmeter invention in 1910's, his patent is well documented and stored at Archives Canada, his co inventor is one Elias Slaght who we believe not to be the photo, my mother Joan Patricia Dutton Rutledge told me that the photo was of family only and it was taken by the inventor himself on his own camera at that time, hence the reason you don't see John Walter Danher/Danaher in the pic, you will however see many of my Danher relatives, mainly with my gr8gr8 grandparents John Danher and Jane Baines in the seats on left middle. They are also the gr8 grandparents of my cousin Sir Paul McCartney, Mary Theresa Danher's parents and she is Paul's maternal grandmother. The main purpose of this photo was to celebrate the family's importance into the invention of the gasmeter. My gr8 granddad John Walter Danher/Danaher was known by his nickname the Meterman.

Frank Danher was our cousin and was 1st cousin to Paul's Mother. He was one of our family priests and Paul's mother, Mary Mohin, prayed to Father Frank's photo, the week she knew her Breast Cancer was at it's worst for a miracle. Sadly, history denotes that that was not to be.....  

Father Frank Danher became well known and very familiar to alot of Liverpudlians and recognized for his charitable work through the Roman Catholic Church. He was also known for quick wit and was beloved by his many 50 1st cousins of the time. Both Mary and Frank are sadly missed by the Danhers and we will always remember them.

John Walter Danher (Danaher)

John Walter Danher was born in Middlesbrough, England 1866 to John Danher and Jane Baines. He was the eldest of 16 children. He was the great uncle to Paul McCartney and brother to Paul's Maternal Grandmother Mary Theresa Danher, one of his many younger sisters. John Danher and Jane Baines married in 1865 in Stockton,  England and had John Walter Danher that following year. John Walter Danher grew up for a time in Durham and did what his father did and that was coal mining and blacksmithing.. they were men of the north and they had a desire to work with iron ore and steel. They were Irishmen from County and City of Limerick, Ireland and emigrated to the United Kingdom via Scotland in the mid 1840's, when his grandfather again, one John Dana(g)her moved his family post potatoe famine to the U.K. Note the change in the surname. It went from Danagher (recorded in some records) to Danaher in Ireland, to Danher in England and then as my great granddad John Walter Danher emigrated to Canada, he reverted the name back to Danaher. It was a social economic reason of the period for the name changes, as the bigotry and racism dominated the day in England against all outsiders seeking employment, education, religious and addresses to live in the industrial age of England. When John Walter Danaher (Danher) came to Canada he changed his name back to the original Irish form as he felt the bias and bigotry ways waned in Canada and he could live with his normal name. My Great Granddad was enticed by his younger brother Thomas Luke Danher to come to Canada to replace him in his post with the Standard Electric and Gas Company in Montreal Quebec Canada, as Thomas Luke returned to England on his wife's orders as the weather did not agree with her. John Walter started with this company in place of Thomas Luke and eventually invented and patented the first Gas Meter. The patent was held with Archives Canada and he was known then in the 1890's to 1900's as the 'Meterman'.

MARY PATRICIA MOHIN MCCARTNEY

Mary Patricia Mohin McCartney was the mother of Paul McCartney and she died prematurely at a young age with Breast Cancer. She married James McCartney, Paul's father and had 2 boys, James Paul McCartney and Peter Michael McCartney. Mary's parents were Owen Mohin and Mary Theresa Danher, Paul's Maternal Grandparents. Mary Theresa Danher was my (Paul Rutledge) Great Great Aunt. Mary Theresa Danher Mohin was my Great Granddad John Walter Danher(Danaher)'s sister. Mary Theresa and John Walter were 2 of 16 children of John Danher and Jane Baines, Paul's great grandparents (my great great grandparents), John Walter was from Limerick City, Limerick County, Ireland and Jane Baines was from Dudley, Worcestershire/Staffordshire, England. They had 16 children, 2 dying in infancy, 14 survived, however, 2 more girls died at young ages, leaving 12 children surviving. My Great Granddad John Walter Danher(Danaher) the eldest and later to be renowned for the Meterman 'The Gas Meter Inventor', had my grandmother Annie Eileen Danaher, for which my mother Joan Dutton was her daughter, and then myself, Joan's son Paul Rutledge.  My Grandmother Annie Eileen Danaher-Dutton was one of almost 50 first cousins and my mother Joan Dutton-Rutledge was one of almost 300 2nd Cousins, we were fortunate as a family not to lose our Danher men in Wars and Conflicts and thus our family became enormous, proud and interesting.
